Vision Correction

At Mattawan Family Eye Care, our primary specialties in vision correction are providing eyeglass frames, lenses, and contact lenses. You can learn all about these services on their respective pages (as well as try on some virtual frames using your computer, tablet, or phone – it’s pretty cool!).

There are more methods of vision correction than eyeglasses or contacts, however, and some patients may prefer or require them. A couple of examples are described on this page.

While we do not perform the treatments below at our office, we still serve as a local base for consultation, and information on them. If such a treatment is determined to be ideal for your needs, and you are a candidate for it, we can refer you to trusted experts. We can also provide care before and following any procedures.

LASIK

Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) is a surgical procedure in which a laser is used to reshape the cornea. Properly reshaping the cornea can allow light to properly focus on the retina, restoring clarity of vision.

LASIK may be a good choice for patients who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism but prefer a solution that does not involve the use of contacts or eyeglasses. However, not all patients with the above conditions may benefit from LASIK. We can perform a thorough examination of your eyes to determine whether you would be a good candidate for this procedure, and if it would best meet your needs.

Low Vision Therapy

Sometimes, vision can be partially lost in ways that aren’t commonly correctable via lenses, medications, or surgical procedures. Such conditions may include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma, among others.

Vision Therapy

When the eyes don’t work well together, whether due to hereditary issues, injury or neurological problems, the world is perceived differently by that person. This can cause delays in learning, deficiencies in sports, problems with depth perception that can affect driving and everyday activities, and many other issues. Vision therapy allows patients to develop their visual abilities and improve daily living in the classroom, the workplace, and in sports.
